The objective of this lecture is to describe the development of a new contraceptive vaginal ring recently approved. This contraceptive vaginal ring has the optimal characteristics of size, adequate release rate of progestogen and estrogen compatible with contraceptive effectiveness, and additional benefits compared with current contraceptive vaginal ring on the market due to its bioequivalence The innovation of this new vaginal ring, lays on the polymers used, allowing the new ring to be more stable; this avoids the initial burst, allowing a gradual release of the hormones, and also a constant drug release during the time of use. Due to the higher solubility of the hormones in the ring, the ring is more stable, and it does not require any special temperature storage conditions
